As most of you know HoTPCA will partner with the Multicultural Refugee Coalition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps on Saturday March 5 from 12:30 – 3:30.
MRC is a great organization (www.mrcaustin.org) and it’s going to be really fun. Great ethnic food and a potluck, tons of fun projects that will really help MRC and their members, a soccer scrimmage and some dance and music performances. If you want, bring your musical instruments and join in.
Now’s the time to sign up for one of the following activities: And anyone can bring art supplies or fabrics for use in their regular programs. If you’re interested, reply to Lorel and then expect to hear more details about the project you’re going to help with!
Assist sewers and artisans (paper beads, crochet) as they make things for themselves and their families and explore how to turn their skills into income generation. Knowledge of one of these crafts helpful.
COMPUTER LITERACY/JOB SKILLS:
Help people learn computer skills, write resumes, apply for jobs. Also, computer lab maintenance.
Maintain the soccer field by mowing, weeding, building sings and possibly bleachers.
Help prepare yummy food with some great cooks and set up for a potluck.
Play games, make art, practice English with refugee youth from pre-teen to toddler.
Help plant four spring garden plots at Festival Beach Community Garden (corner of Waller and Clermont near Lady Bird lake)
GENERAL BUILDING MAINTENANCE:
Beautify the grounds of the community center where MRC meets.
