HoTPCA Grants Program

GOAL

The mission of Heart of Texas Peace Corps Association (HoTPCA) has three components, one of which is to “support sustainable community-building projects both locally and overseas.” In an effort to fulfill our mission, HoTPCA has established a Grants Program to support development projects consistent with the Peace Corps spirit and goals

OVERVIEW

HoTPCA funds varied international and local projects and gives preference to submissions from the following individuals and groups:

  • Current Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) looking to:
    • obtain the necessary funding to start a project, or
    • expand/replicate a successful project
  • HoTPCA Members or Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) currently residing in the state of Texas, in support of either:
    • A project in their country of service through an NGO or Friends program
    • A project in the local community whose mission aligns with Peace Corps spirit and goals and meet our criteria
  • Central Texas based NGOs, 501(c)3s, and local community organizations whose mission aligns with the Peace Corps spirit and goals and meet our criteria

SELECTION CRITERIA

The prospective project will be evaluated by the HoTPCA Grants Committee for its potential to meet Peace Corps goals by exhibiting as many of the following as possible:

  • Be technically and economically feasible.
  • Improve the general welfare of the community.
  • Ensure that all those actively involved in the project will benefit from the results.
  • Address community needs.
  • Facilitate the transfer of technology, skills, and knowledge to others.
  • Foster self-sufficiency and sustainability.

GRANT FUNDING

Grants are funded from HoTPCA general operating funds, generated through dues, calendar sales, donations, and any ad hoc fundraising activities approved by the Board. If the idea of Investing in a Peaceful World resonates with you, please consider supporting our efforts by making a donation today.

At the Annual Meeting, the HoTPCA Board will report on all projects funded during the previous year and submit a proposed annual budget for the following calendar year. This budget will include a minimum amount to be available for the grants in the following fiscal year.  If funds are available this amount can be exceeded by a vote of the Board.

GRANTS COMMITTEE

The HoTPCA Grants Committee consists of three members all of whom are dues-paying, current members of HoTPCA, one of whom is a member of the Board.  The committee evaluates all grant applications and sends the Board a recommendation on each.  If there is more than one grant application per quarter, the Grants Committee ranks the requests according to their preference. The Grants Committee may also elect to search the Peace Corps Partnership website for any projects that meet HoTPCA Selection Criteria. HoTPCA’s Grants Committee Project information will also be posted on the HoTPCA website and distributed via email to HoTPCA members. Changes to the HoTPCA grants program will be submitted to HoTPCA’s Board for approval.
